Spinning Away

I knew after my failure to reach Massanutten that I needed more variety in my training.  Part of that is to get back on the bicycle.  I've found this very hard to do during the week; I guess I had to take advantage of the weekend.

After wasting time for much of the day, I finally pushed myself out the door and got moving down the road.  Foolishly, I started with the wind again.  Actually, I don't have a lot of choice.  I like to move away from Austin and most of the traffic.  That usually means going north.  It just happens that the wind usually blows from the south.

After 20+ miles and  little over an hour of riding, I was feeling pretty good but ready to turn back for home.  It was a much longer ride back against the wind.

Overall I feel pretty good.  Just over 40 miles.  My 18 mph average going out got taken down a notch on the way back.  And the knee is still not cooperating.  I need to take it easy for a while longer on that.  And hydrate a little better.  The triple-digit temps don't feel as bad on the bike as when running, but they still require quite a bit of fluid.  I can only carry so much.
